becoming one of the above statistics. Motorists, bicyclists, and
pedestrians all must “Share the Road”
and take proper precautions to make sure all users of Kentucky’s
roadways reach their destination safely.
The following are tips take you can take to make sure you are
doing what you can to “Share the Road”.
At one time or another we are or will be pedestrians. The following
are tips to aid you and your children’s safety when walking
along Kentucky roadways:
- Don’t jaywalk! Cross at crosswalks.
- Always look left, right, then left again before stepping out
into the street. Continue to look and listen while crossing the
street.
- If there is no sidewalk, walk facing oncoming traffic and walk
as far off the road as possible.
- If walking at night, wear brightly colored clothing and carry
a flashlight so motorists can see you.

- League Certified Instructors
League Certified Instructors (LCI’s) are experienced cyclists
who have taken a rigorous cycling course offered through the League
of American Bicyclists to be certified to teach bicycle safety
in their communities. Many LCI’s can be found through your
local bicycling club and may be available to teach a bike safety
course for your organization, school groups, clubs, etc. If you
would like more information regarding bike safety, please feel
free to contact a LCI in your area.
Additional bicycle and pedestrian safety information
can be found on the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
