KRTC Ashland to Lexington relay:
This year the fourth Lexington Big Sandy Cycling Relay will go from
Ashland to Lexington. This is a new twist to previous relays. The
goal remains the same which is to support the development of the
Lexington Big Sandy Rail Trail. It will start near the Carter/Boyd
County Line just off I 64 and end in eastern Fayette County at Pleasant
Ridge Park. The relay starts in Princess at 8:00 am on Saturday,
May 31st. It will go through Grahn, Olive Hill, Morehead, Mt. Sterling,
Winchester and end in Lexington. KRTC will offer KRTC members transportation
for bikes from Lexington to Princess for cyclists who want to start
at the eastern end. If you are not a member you can join KRTC on
the website at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr
or by mailing $25.00 or more to Kentucky Rails to Trails Council,
PO Box 597, Lexington KY 40588-0597. Cyclists will have to have
their bikes ready to load by Friday noon May 30. There is a preliminary

TOUR of the Red River Gorge is a series of three bicycle race events, Battle on the Byway Road Race, Red River Time Trial and Red River Criterium. The road race route features the Red River Gorge and the Red River Gorge National Scenic Byway and has been rated as one of the top five courses in the United States. This year, in addition to the usual range of race categories, they are the U.S Qualifier for the 2008 World Junior Road Race Championship. The Junior winners of the road race will represent the United States at the World Championship in South Africa this July. There will also be collegiate events and special races for under 23 women. Riders from 40 or more states competing. Overall purse for these events is $11,000.00.

Cycle the Gorge is a one or 2 day recreational and rally bicycle event. It is held over the same routes that have made TOUR of the Red River Gorge famous, the Red River Gorge National Scenic Byway. Ride options start with an easy 35 mile round trip to Natural Bridge State Resort Park where riders may check their bikes while enjoying the park's features before returning to Stanton to watch the criterium races, listen to live bluegrass music while eating a hearty barbecue supper by Stillwater Barbecue. Other options include the historic Nada Tunnel, the Red River Gorge and surrounding area for 52, 62, 84 or 104 mile rides. The 84 and 104 mile routes offer an optional overnight camping along the Kentucky River near the Beattyville, KY 'Pedals & Blooms Festival'. You can arrange for your camping gear to be transported to the camp site to await your arrival Saturday afternoon. On Sunday your gear along with your purchases at the festival will be transported back to Stanton where you can claim them upon your return.

Tour de Lincoln
The Lincoln Bicentennial Bike Tour will closely follow the original
Lincoln family’s pioneering trek through Kentucky, Indiana
and Illinois. The tour is over 360 miles long, arching across flat
prairies and beautiful Ohio River country, with modest rolling hills
and scenic river bluffs.
The tour will include a camping and a hotel/motel option for accommodations.
Sag wagon with bicycle repair included; and return bus transportation
from Springfield to Hodgenville. An advance bus may be scheduled
to run riders from Springfield to the Hodgenville start. The 2008
Tour de Lincoln ride is limited to 150 riders. Cost for the tour
is $595 (includes camping and meals).

The 31st Annual Old Kentucky Home Bicycle
Tour
The 31st Annual Old Kentucky Home Bicycle Tour, (aka OKHT), is a
two-day ride departing from E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville on
Saturday, September 6th and 7th, with three mileage routes to historic
Bardstown, Ky.
Events include a 50-mile, 72-mile, and very challenging 102-mile
century, which includes the legendary Pottershop Hill, and is the
winner of the League of American Bicyclists Best Century 2000 award.
On Sunday, September 7th, there is also a 25 or 50-mile single-day
loop that goes out to the famous Cookie Stop SAG and then returns
to the ride start along with the 2-day riders. All other routes
overnight in Bardstown and return via a gorgeous 55-mile route on
Sunday. The Old Kentucky Home Tour is a beautiful bike tour through
scenic, rolling hills in rural Kentucky, fully supported with fixed
and roving sags.
Price of registration includes bagels and coffee Saturday morning,
Saturday lunch, Sunday morning breakfast, plus ample food and drink
at the many SAG stops along the way. Our tour is famous for our
Cookie Stop on Sunday, where sampling the homemade cookies, of all
kinds, is an endurance sport in itself. (All riders are invited
and encouraged to bring cookies for the cookie stop). Sunday's ride
also features a post-ride pizza party at Sawyer Park.
Bardstown offers a number of activities and entertainment options
including a yoga class under the trees, carriage rides around Bardstown,
free massages, live entertainment, and discounted Bardstown-area
tours. Many fine restaurants are also available in Bardstown for
those spending the night.
Overnight accommodations include motels and B&Bs. Free gymnasium
or tent camping with hot showers are also available at the overnight
ride headquarters. Drop off your bags at the shuttle truck Saturday
morning and pick them up at the tour HQ in Bardstown that afternoon.
Shuttle buses run a scheduled route Saturday evening and Sunday
morning to and from the ride HQs - to our designated motels.
